bye bye steffie
Stefan is finally going home! One less vegetarian in my life.Hahaha.But frankly, I am rather sad to see a good friend leaving. As the Chinese saying goes 天下无不散之宴席,nothing lasts forever and we should be happy that he is going back to his real life back home.
A few of us met up with him at the airport to bid him farewell, possibly seeing him in person for the last time. The evening thankfully proceeded without being overly sentimental (which this post risks being). And with a handshake and a good bye wave, he went on his way home on a 150€ business class ticket.
Anyways, this is the first time in years that I have stepped into Changi Terminal 2. And my eyes nearly popped out when I escalated (i.e. went up on an escalator) from the MRT station. A warm ambient glow greeted my eyes, emitting from a series of rib-like structures, a far cry from the bland and forgettable interiors that used to be there. Changi airport is really stepping up its game in a time when designer airports are more often the norm than the exception. However, as much as I feel that the ribs are quite beautiful, I lament the fact that they are mere ceilings and almost unrelated to the overall form of the terminal building. Perhaps I shouldn't view too seriously from an architect's viewpoint, but I feel that it would have been better if the ribs were the actual structures of the terminal building, making the building into a more cohesive architectural object, rather than just being elements pasted into the interiors of a box.
