Autonomous house in progress, more pics when I have time Posted by Picasa

boarding the flying saucer

Went for a site visit at the new Supreme Court yesterday for my technology module. I like the building after being inside, in great contrast to the cynical attitude I had when I entered the building. no time to write too much , will add more comments after crit.

Pics are taken in the flying saucer. The pics are quite bad as they were taken using my phone. Cameras were confiscated upon entry.

portrait

My first portrait! Drawn by Ryan. Pretty accurate, the spectacles and the hair, although I think the jaw line could have been less square. See more at Sketchbook.

protect the mags, I shall

MY first task as the Publication Secretary of the NUS Architecture Society, to protect the collection of vintage Architecture Review and Architecture Record (dusty old issue from 1978) being left in the student lounge. Browsing through the magazines, I was both surprised and disappointed that students today, me included, are still designing the same things that people have already done in the 70s.

Anyway, I am still doubting if my decision to accept the post is a good thing, for both myself and TAS, knowing my own tendency to be inert and unmotivated.

feeling dead

No new post for a week. I've been feeling very lethargic lately, ever since the 1st crit in September. The masterplan might have sapped all the energy out of me. Final submission is in 2 week and I'm not feeling worried at all. I'm worried that I don't feel worried for submission.

Perhaps I'm still suffering from post-exchange syndrome, perhaps I'm just lazy...

Jack after crit

Built a gigantic model for the interim crit today. This is the first 1:50 scale model I've built since year 1 and it's surprisingly effective in showing the voids within the building. The crit didn't go too well though, with Perry Yang, the other half of the panel other than David, spouted out a big chunk of comments which neither me nor David (or so he claimed) could not understand. 3 more weeks to final submission.

After the crit, we were invited by Stefan to his spanking new 10th floor dwelling to meet his friend, Jack, who made the occasion more stimulating despite our severe sleep deprivation.

ipod my baby

If you can't afford a 6oGB Ipod, why not get a bigger one with less money. Dress up your baby like an ipod and carry it around like you would with an Ipod (well, babies have to carried around anyway). This ipod craze is getting out of hand with the myriad of accessories available for it, some costing even more then the ipod itself, now there is even this ipod accessory that is not used with any ipod at all. maybe some fanatics have the need to match their babies with their precious ipods. Nevertheless, it is so undeniably cute that I feel the urge, as a new ipod inductee, to get one for my nephew.

from Ipod My Baby in sizes for 6, 12 and 18 months and comes in white, pink, blue and black.

failed UD meeting

Was suppose to meet with Ah Foong and Chin Yap, who are in my neighbouring studio, to do our UD assignment but they were too worn out from an overnighter, so we decided that we can always do it another time since there's still 3 weeks before the presentation. I took a chance to snoop around their studio spying on their projects.

This is a roof concept currently being developed by Wang Ying. It is a system of triangular panels linked together forming this chainmail-like surface that drapes over the space that needs to be covered. Highly flexible and polymorphic. Very interesting although waterproofing would be a headache.

Meet the scale family, Mr Five, Mr Ten and Mr Fifty.

Ah Foong showing off the latest extravagant purchase by our school.
