emerald bay

Was browsing through aki mags today at Kinokuniya and saw this picture of a proposed condominium development at Emerald Bay in Singapore (don't ask me where that is, this is the first time I've heard of Emerald Bay). If you find the design vaguely familiar, you are right.And you (my aki friends) probably know other works of the architect. The first person who can correctly guess the name of the architect gets a prize from me.

105 Pyongyang

Came across this awesome building in Domus 882, the 105 building in Pyongyang. I like it for its monumentality and as a symbol of the uoptia that has yet (perhaps never) to be achieved by the Communist state. Will scan some pics from Domus when I have time.

And the building reminded me of a Renzo building currently under construction in London, called the Shard/London Bridge.

If you didn't know, it's Mies van der Rohe's 120th birthday on Thursday 2nd March and a big party will be held at the IIT. Details below:

Reception is a free event, play is free to Mies Society members, $10.00 for non-members.

The evening begins at 5:30 P.M. with a birthday reception, including cash bar offering Mies' signature martinis, followed at 7:00 P.M. with a performance of Glass House, a play by June Finfer recounting the story of Farnsworth House and tumultuous relationship between its famous architect and his client.
