I don't know, why you put this two buildings together! Just because of the shape? I think you can't compare apples with pears! Haha (german saying)
Sony Center is a covered plaza, with natural ventilation and not closed. The Basilica is a Church with a completely different feeling inside.

Urmm... I'm well aware that the spaces are different, with different atmospsheres and
somewhat different functions, although both are essentially high volume round enclosed spaces created for mass gathering. I'm merely comparing the shape of the roofs. Nothing more than that. I am not attempting to do some kind of pseudo-intellectual discourse about intellectual rights in architectural design nor am I trying to place them as architectural/spatial parrallels. If it were my intention to compare the spaces, I would have been sensible enough to post interior pictures instead of just two exterior shots. In addition, I am not saying the the roof of Sony Centre was copied from the Basilica. You can decide for yourself. (like how you think the Marina Bay Bridge design is a copy of your bridge design last semester despite the fact that the only similarity is the idea of a double helix structure)
Just found it interesting to see that the off-centred parabolic roof shape has been done decades before the Sony Centre. You may choose to over-read into my innocent blogpost but it is intended as nothing more than a surface comparison.
Perhaps you could share with poor ignorant me if you know of any other buildings that have employed a similar roof shape. I'm a sucker for curves and it would be of great interest to me.
And to end with an analogy, I am comparing oranges with grapefruits, same same but different.

was suprised too, when i saw the basilica. but then thought what i wrote. ok la
