Haji Lane

Haji Lane is officially my favorite street in Singapore. A piece of authentic old Singapore that has yet to be touched by Big Brother. The nostalgic quality is balanced with a newly infused bohemian feel brought here by a few off beat but edgy shops and cafes that is scattered among the old tenant mix. Perhaps it is the charm of the unplanned buzz and non-clinical atmosphere that attracts me.

I do believe ugly highrise spoils the environment. Your last 2 photos are good example. I love the second last one...without the highrise at the far end.

Quite true, but the scale of the street (barely fits two cars side by side)manages to relegate the tall buildings, if they are visible at all, to the background in most part, in a way accentuating the feeling of being away from the city while at the same time being in the city. It's a pity such spots are getting rarer in Singapore.

I can bring you there if you come to Singapore.
